Points and Rewards for WooCommerce

The underlying goal of a points and rewards system is simple: build customer loyalty.

Why? Because it's easier to sell to existing, loyal customers than it is to win new ones.

The basic mechanics of a points and rewards system are also simple:

  • grant customers points for various activities including sign-up, referrals, purchases, etc.
  • let customers redeem their points when making purchases
  • optionally, create rewards-based membership programs

Fortunately, there are not quite as many complications associated with a points and rewards system as there are for a gift-card program. However, that doesn't mean it's easy to implement on your own. You're still going to need a professional plugin to do it properly.

What is Points and Rewards for WooCommerce?

There are actually quite a few plugins with names similar to "Points and Rewards for WooCommerce". To be clear, this article is about MakeWebBetter's Points and Rewards for WooCommerce plugin.

What makes the MakeWebBetter plugin worthy of our attention? The main appeal for us is its clean, logical design and workflow, as you can in the following video, which is a bit long (17 minutes) but it does provide the best video description of the plugin:

Now that you have a basic understanding of the plugin, let's have a closer look at its features.

  • automatically adjust points in response to refunds & cancellations
  • when awarding points, round them up and/or down

  • configure other coupon settings
  • create a multi-level membership program to reward loyal customers with exclusive offers
  • use API settings to integrate plugin with other applications

Here is a video that shows some of these features. We're not a big fan of this video, as it speeds through several unrelated features rather quickly, but at least it gives you a sense of the comprehensive nature of the plugin — something that MakeWebBetter seems to be doing with many of its plugins:

User Reviews and General Quality

At the time of writing this article, the free version of Points and Rewards for WooCommerce has received 56 reviews at https://wordpress.org/plugins/points-and-rewards-for-woocommerce/. 47 of these, or roughly 84.4 %, are 5-star.

We also traced the plugin back to its origins on Envato Market, where it has another 48 reviews over 5 years. The ratings there are higher, with 92.4 % of them at 5 stars.

When reviewing all the customer comments on this plugin across multiple platforms, we did notice users identifying a couple of scenarios that are not currently handled by the plugin, such as:

  • no export capabilities (we can obviously help you with that!)
  • no support for a multi-vendor plugin (though it doesn't say which)
  • an ability to assign fractional values to point rewards

If you have an irregular requirement of any kind, it might be wise to try the live demo for the plugin. If you can't easily answer your questions with the live demo, there is also a customer service popup on that page that allows you to interactively query MakeWebBetter's support staff.

Finally, as we always do for every plugin that we review, we performed a much wider sweep of the internet looking for complaints about the maker of the plugin, MakeWebBetter. Nothing negative turned up.

As such, we have no problem recommending this company and this plugin. And, please note, we do not accept or receive affiliate fees for any of our articles. These articles and the opinions expressed in them are written solely as a value-add for our paying customers.

Points and Rewards for WooCommerce Pricing

As of the publication of this article, the regular annual price for this plugin is $99 US for one site. Because we are currently in Black Friday sales season, the listed price at this time is $79 but we're unsure how long this sale will last.

Wrapping Up

We are constantly on the lookout for WooCommerce themes and plugins that provide the following:

  • exceptional value
  • makes the life of a WooCommerce store owner noticeably easier
  • superb quality as measured not only by users reviews but also a long track record of delivering quality products

Points and Rewards for WooCommerce fulfills all of these requirements, which is why we have added it to our "Best WooCommerce Plugins" list for 2022.
